I Used ChatGPT and DALL-E 3 to Reimagine 7 Harry Potter Characters Based on Book Descriptions
I generated the top 7 characters from the Harry Potter book.
In my previous articles, I was captivated by DALL-E 3’s ability to recognize complex traits and depict them precisely.
I wanted to test DALL-E 3’s abilities one more time by generating well-known characters from ‘Harry Potter’, using the detailed descriptions provided in the books.
While DALL-E 3 doesn’t produce photos as realistic as Midjourney, I think the images it generates are still captivating. If you’re a book fan, I think you’re gonna like the images generated by DALL-E 3. Let’s see all of them.
Character #1 Harry Potter
Book description: A boy with a thin face, messy black hair, and bright-green eyes that are almond-shaped. He is slim and slightly short. He wears round glasses and has a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead. Very thin lightning-shaped scar on forehead.
To my surprise, this semi-cartoon character has a striking resemblance to the actor who played Harry Potter in the movie. The DALL-E 3 character is thinner than the original, but it fits the book description.
Character #2 Hermione Granger
Book description: A jung girl. She has brown eyes and unruly brown hair that resembles a crow’s nest. She was wearing a school robe.
For Hermione, it was a bit different. In the books, she’s described with dark brown, bushy hair, almost like a crow’s nest. In the film, she appeared almost blonde. DALL-E 3 followed every detail in the book description (maybe too much).
Character #3 Ron Weasley
Book description: A young guy with fiery red hair and blue eyes. He has a long nose, feet and hands, and his face is covered in funny freckles. He is tall for his age, rather thin and awkward. He is always dressed simply and sparsely.
In the book, Ron is described as tall and thin with flaming hair and freckles. However, in the film, he wasn’t noticeably taller or thinner than Harry Potter.
Character #4 Draco Malfoy
Book description:A young guy, he is tall and thin, with smooth blond hair, a pointed face, cold gray eyes, pale skin, delicate features and a pointed nose. Aristocratic and important.
For Draco, Tom Felton was an impeccable choice. He aligns well with the book description, and DALL-E 3’s image also mirrors his movie appearance.
Character #5 Luna Lovegood
Book description:a jung girl with light ash hair, rather dirty and tangled, down to the waist. She has very pale eyebrows and bulging eyes, which always gave her a surprised look. Around her neck hung a necklace made of butterbeer caps. The ears were decorated with earrings that looked like orange radishes.
In the movie, Luna comes across as a gentle, slightly quirky girl. But in the book, she’s portrayed as more eccentric, with silver hair and a heavier build — almost otherworldly in her distinctiveness.
Character #6 Severus Snape
Book description: A thin man with pale skin, a hooked nose, of average height, with thin lips that were often curled in a mocking smile and greasy, shoulder-length hair. His cold, black eyes resembled dark tunnels.
The character from the book appears far more intimidating and less affable than the movie actor. If we consider the book description and the image generated with DALL-E 3, Severus Snape should be leaner than the film’s actor (and maybe more intimidating).
Character #7 Albus Dumbledore
Book description: He is an elderly tall, thin and very old man with long silver hair down to his waist and a long silver beard. He has blue eyes under crescent-shaped glasses that sit on a long, hooked nose. He wears a long frock coat, a purple robe, and buckled boots.
DALL-E 3 rendered Dumbledore as an elegant, slender elderly man. But, no matter how I adjusted the description for DALL-E 3, it didn’t quite match the portrayal from the book. Michael Gambon is a clear winner here.
